The Riser
Regular price $350.00 Save $-350.00The dry-fly rod. Built to make fish look up.
Eight and a half feet, 4-weight, medium action. The Riser is the rod you reach for when the fishing gets delicate — soft presentations, spooky fish, and dry flies laid down so gently they never see it coming.
Not every day on the water is a do-everything day. Some days the fish are up, sipping off the surface, and heavier gear just slaps the water and sends them running. That's what the Riser is for. The shorter 8.5' length gives you accuracy and control in tight quarters. The 4-weight lays down light lines and small flies with a whisper. And the medium action loads deep and protects fine tippet, so you can fish delicate and still land the fish.
If dry-fly fishing is your favorite kind of day — small water, rising fish, careful presentations — this is your rod. It's the most specialized, most rewarding rod in the lineup, and it does its one job beautifully.
Why a 4-weight, and why 8.5 feet
A lighter line weight means a softer delivery — the fly lands first, gently, instead of the line crashing down and spooking a wary fish. The shorter length trades a little reach for a lot of accuracy and easy handling on small streams and brushy banks. Together they make a rod that does one thing better than any all-arounder can: put a dry fly exactly where you want it, softly enough that the fish never knows you're there. We finished it in Driftwood Brown to match the water it's made for.
Built with the details that usually cost more
| High-modulus carbon fiber | Light and sensitive, with the deep, protective flex a dry-fly rod needs. |
| Burled wood reel seat | A gunmetal up-locking seat with a real burled wood insert — a rod this nice should look the part. |
| AAAA-grade cork | Our highest cork grade — a premium, flawless handle that feels as good as it looks. |
| Stainless steel guides | A light-wire stripping guide plus snake guides; smooth, accurate, corrosion-resistant. |
| Alignment dots | Line up your sections right, every time. |
| Anti-glare matte finish | Driftwood Brown, so sun off the blank won't spook fish in clear water. |
| 2 tips included | The tip breaks most often — so we include a spare and you stay on the water. |
| Aluminum rod tube | A Driftwood Brown anodized tube with gunmetal cap and a cotton rod sock — full protection for travel. |

Which rod is yours?
We make four rods, each built for a specific job:
- The Riser (8.5' 4wt) — this rod. The dry-fly rod. Delicate and accurate for spooky fish on clear water.
- The Fly Flinger (9' 5wt) — the do-everything, where-you-start rod. If you buy one rod, it's this one.
- The Fly Flinger Pro (9' 5wt, fast) — the premium all-arounder. Faster, lighter, upgraded hardware, better in wind.
- The Bug Bomber (9' 6wt) — the muscle. Big streamers, heavy nymph rigs, wind, and bigger water.

Questions
Is the Riser a good first rod?
It can be, if you already know dry-fly fishing is what you love. But if you want one rod to learn on and do a bit of everything, the Fly Flinger (9' 5wt) is the more versatile place to start. The Riser is a specialist — it rewards anglers who want a dedicated dry-fly rod.
Can it fish nymphs or streamers?
It can handle a light nymph rig in a pinch, but that's not what it's built for. A 4-weight shines with dry flies and light presentations. For heavier rigs and bigger flies, look at the Fly Flinger Pro or Bug Bomber.
Why 8.5 feet instead of 9?
The shorter length gives you more accuracy and easier handling on small streams and tight, brushy water — exactly where delicate dry-fly fishing happens. You trade a little distance for a lot of control.
What line and reel pair with it?
A 4-weight line and a reel sized for 4/5-weight.
What if I break it?
See our replacement program — we ship replacement sections fast. And it already comes with a spare tip, the section that breaks most often.
