The Bug Bomber
Regular price $350.00 Save $-350.00The muscle. When the flies get big and the water gets serious.
Nine feet, 6-weight, fast action. The Bug Bomber is the biggest, most powerful rod in the lineup — built to throw big flies, punch through wind, and put the brakes on bigger fish. When a 5-weight starts to feel outgunned, this is the rod you want in your hand.
The extra backbone of a 6-weight turns over heavy nymph rigs, big hoppers, and streamers that a lighter rod struggles with. The fast action drives line into the wind and gives you the power to reach across bigger water. And when you hook a fish that means it, the Bug Bomber has the muscle to control it and land it — not just cast to it.
This is the rod for anglers who fish bigger water, bigger flies, and bigger fish — heavy nymphing, streamer days, windy afternoons, and the kind of fishing where you need power on your side. It's the top of the lineup, and it fishes like it.
Built to throw big and fight hard
The Bug Bomber is the only rod in our lineup with a full-wells grip — the grip built for power, so you can drive big casts and fight fish without your hand tiring. It runs two stripping guides instead of one, giving you cleaner line control when you're stripping streamers or managing a heavy rig. And the 6-weight blank has the lifting power to move fish out of current and structure. Everything about it is built for the days when you need more rod, not less. We finished it in a light gray with River Blue accents and a walnut reel seat insert — a rugged rod that still looks the part.

Which rod is yours?
We make four rods, each built for a specific job:
- The Riser (8.5' 4wt) — the dry-fly rod. Delicate and accurate for spooky fish on clear water.
- The Fly Flinger (9' 5wt) — the do-everything, where-you-start rod. Our most accessible price and the easiest to learn on.
- The Fly Flinger Pro (9' 5wt, fast) — the premium all-arounder. Faster, lighter, upgraded hardware, better in wind.
- The Bug Bomber (9' 6wt) — this rod. The muscle. Big streamers, heavy nymph rigs, wind, and bigger water.

Questions
Is a 6-weight too much rod for trout?
Not for the way a lot of people fish. If you throw streamers, heavy nymph rigs, or big hoppers, fish bigger water, or deal with a lot of wind, the extra power of a 6-weight is a real advantage. If most of your fishing is smaller flies and delicate presentations, the Fly Flinger Pro (9' 5wt) or Riser (8.5' 4wt) will suit you better.
What can it throw that a 5-weight can't?
Bigger and heavier — articulated streamers, weighted nymph rigs with split shot and indicators, big foam hoppers, and sink-tip lines. It also punches through wind better and has more lifting power on bigger fish.
Can you still fish dry flies on a 6-weight?
Yes. Is it as delicate as a 4- or 5-weight? No — but it fishes dries better than you'd think. It shines throwing a single hopper, and it'll handle smaller dry flies too; you just give up a little in delicacy of presentation. If dry-fly fishing is your main game, the Riser or Fly Flinger Pro is the better tool — but the Bug Bomber won't leave you stuck when the fish start looking up.
Can I use it for bass?
Absolutely. The 6-weight is a great crossover for smallmouth and other hard-pulling fish, on top of big-water trout — it has the backbone to turn over bigger bass flies and control a strong fish. (For carp and other fish that call for a 7–8 weight, you'll want something heavier — take the quiz and it'll point you the right direction.)
What line and reel pair with it?
A 6-weight line and a reel sized for 6/7-weight. For streamer fishing, consider a sink-tip.
What if I break it?
See our replacement program — we ship replacement sections fast. And it already comes with a spare tip, the section that breaks most often.
