What It Is

Hand-selected deer body hair from Nature's Spirit. Clean tips, minimal underfur, hollow fibers that flare when you compress them. If you tie a little bit of everything, this is the patch that stays on the bench.

Best Uses

• Flared wings and collars: caddis, hoppers, stoneflies, attractor dries
• Stacked wings: Stimulators, Chubbies, Humpies, and other high-floating searchers
• Spun and packed heads: muddlers, sculpins, bass bugs, diver heads
• Trimmed bodies: anywhere you want buoyant, shapeable bulk

Why It Matters

Cheap deer hair is a coin flip. You get broken tips, curly fibers, and a hide full of underfur you spend more time combing out than tying with. Nature's Spirit sorts every patch by hand, so what shows up is what you expected: consistent fiber length, tips that stack evenly, and hollow butts that flare predictably under thread tension. Deer hair is unforgiving material to learn on, and most of what makes it frustrating is the hair, not the tyer.

How It Fishes

Hollow hair traps air, and trapped air floats. That's what makes a spun deer hair head ride high through pocket water and a flared caddis wing sit up in the film after a dozen fish. It also gives you a silhouette that holds its shape wet — bulk without weight, which is exactly what a hopper or a muddler needs to look alive.
