What It Imitates: Beetles or other small terrestrials that have fallen into the water — a common and easy meal for trout, especially in the warmer months.

Best Ways to Fish It: Fish it alone on a tapered leader, near grassy banks, under overhanging branches, or tight to structure where beetles are likely to fall in. Let it drift naturally or give it the occasional twitch to mimic a struggling bug. Also a sneaky-good option in a double dry fly rig with a larger attractor up front (we recommend the Chubby Chernobyl).

Where & When to Use: Best from late spring through early fall on creeks, rivers, and even stillwater edges. Especially effective when fish are feeding on terrestrials but ignoring larger bugs.

Extra Tip(s): Slap it down a little harder than usual — beetles don’t land gracefully, and the “plop” often gets a trout’s attention fast.
